Every engine explained: what happens inside when you scan, repair, clone or wipe.
Why DLT - Data Logic Tools
- Intact-first recovery engine — a metadata pass (NTFS MFT record walk, FAT/exFAT cluster-chain walk) lists files with original names and full folder structures within seconds, before deep scan even begins.
- Deep-scan fallback — byte-level signature carving recovers data even when the file system is destroyed, formatted or TRIM-erased.
- Repair, not just recover — the only suite that also repairs corrupt JPEG and camera RAW photos and rebuilds broken video files frame by frame.
- Free scan & preview — scan every device and preview every recoverable file before you pay.
1. Drive Recovery
Deleted files, formatted partitions and corrupted drives on HDD, SSD and USB.
- MFT record parsing — reads the NTFS Master File Table (
$MFT) directly, decodes $DATA attributes and data-run (VCN→LCN) fragment maps, and walks $INDEX_ROOT / $INDEX_ALLOC directories so deleted files come back with original names and folder paths.
- Fragmentation-safe FAT32/exFAT engines — follow FAT cluster chains for correct reassembly of fragmented files; exFAT is prioritized because modern SD and microSD cards use it.
- Signature-based deep scan — byte-level header/footer carving (JPEG
FFD8/FFD9, MP4 ftyp, RIFF, PK, and hundreds more) over raw sectors when metadata is gone.
- Sources: logical drives, whole physical disks and raw disk images (
.img, .dd, .raw).
2. Partition Recovery
- Scans for surviving filesystem metadata — NTFS boot-sector mirrors, FAT backup copies and GPT backup headers.
- Rebuilds the partition table from boot-sector signatures (0x55AA) and restores lost partitions with all data intact.
- Quick scan finds intact partitions fast; deep scan hunts damaged ones sector by sector.
3. Photo Repairing Lab
Forensic-grade repair for corrupt photos — not just recovery.
- JPEG header transplant — quantization (DQT) and Huffman (DHT) tables from a healthy reference image are grafted onto broken files; SOI/EOI markers and restart markers (FFDD) are re-synced.
- Scan-data re-splicing — beheaded JPEGs (lost header, intact scan data) are rebuilt by re-splicing the valid entropy-coded scan onto a reconstructed frame header.
- RAW structure repair — TIFF/IFD chain reconstruction for Canon CR2, Nikon NEF and Sony ARW; when primary image data is damaged, the embedded full-resolution JPEG preview is extracted straight from the RAW structure. The picture comes back.
4. Video Repairing Lab
Frame-level reconstruction for broken video files.
- Container dissection — detects missing
moov, broken stco/co64 chunk-offset tables, truncated mdat, empty sample tables (stsz/stsc), fragmented headers, AVI idx1 loss and MKV EBML damage.
- Index rebuild — reconstructs the
moov atom from mdat frames by NAL-unit scanning (H.264/AVC start-code framing, H.265/HEVC parsing), transplants SPS/PPS codec configuration from a reference file or the stream itself, recomputes chunk offsets and re-syncs AAC/ADTS audio into the output container.
- AUTO REPAIR — one-click pipeline that works even on beheaded, containerless raw streams: codec sniffing from raw NAL data, whole-file frame + audio-chunk scan, clean MP4 rebuild.
- Every repair ends in a full-decode verification health gate — output ships only when it decodes cleanly.
5. Camera Card Rescue
- Detects when a Sony Alpha, Canon or Nikon camera low-level formats a card or triggers TRIM, then switches to EXIF-based cluster carving.
- Reads GPS, lens and timestamp metadata to rebuild photos that lost their headers.
- Per-extension format detection with counts, plus a clear verdict before you commit: recoverable, quick format, or TRIM-erased.
6. Disk Clone
- Sector-by-sector imaging — copies every allocated block to disk, image file or another drive, with bad-sector skipping (read-retry, then skip-log) that keeps reading where other tools stop.
- Supports disk to disk, disk to image, partition to partition, partition to image.
- Pause & resume — a hang, dropped cable or disconnected drive no longer restarts the job. Press Pause & Save (or let auto-save do it), reconnect the source, and continue from the exact sector.
- Automatic resume points — choose Off, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60 minutes. Every save writes a primary copy and a separate backup copy; the backup is only updated after the primary is written successfully, and is used automatically if the primary is unreadable. The Clone area shows the exact save date and time.
- Auto-resume — starting the same clone again continues from its saved point automatically, after the target is checked against the saved position. The option is on the Clone tab and in the Live settings.
- Live settings — the Cloning (Live) tab exposes every copy setting and applies changes to the running job: block size, auto-save interval, read retries, ignore bad sectors, verify after copy, stall timeout and the after-completion action.
- Saved-clone switcher — the Live tab lists every saved clone. Use the newest save or pick another, refresh, delete a save, or press Pause & Resume to pause the current copy and continue the selected saved clone. Nothing is written until its target matches the saved position.
- Source health — during a clone the panel reports read errors, retries, slow reads and unreadable sectors, with a plain-language reason for the current speed and S.M.A.R.T. failure prediction where the drive reports it.
- Image Explorer — open .img, .raw, .dd, .vhd and .vhdx files inside the Clone tab, list their partitions, browse a folder tree, and extract selected files or everything. Requires a Clone licence or a Full Suite licence.
- Block-level copy = every byte, even the deleted ones.
7. Wipe (Erase Sectors)
- Zeros, ones, random and DoD 3-pass overwrite patterns written through raw device handles, with a verification pass that confirms every sector.
- Multi-drive batch wiping with live per-drive progress, speed and percentage.
- Optional automatic Shut Down / Restart / Standby / Hibernate when the task completes.
How It Works — 3 Steps
- Scan — pick a drive, memory card or image file. DLT lists intact files with original names first, then deep-scans for everything deleted.
- Preview — view photos and play videos inside the app before recovering. Filter by type, date and state.
- Recover — save to any location. Repaired files are verified by a full decoder pass before delivery.
